Chantelle Thorne studied graphic design at Natal Technikon, and spent the next decade working in the ad industry. In 1999 she left her wonderful ‘creative director’ title behind and started illustrating.
By 2008 Chantelle had illustrated a variety of over 250 books ranging from on-line science fiction magazines, textbooks of all grades and children’s storybooks. Stories are her passion and she feels that writing or illustrating is more fun than eating chocolates (and far less fattening!).
In 2005 she submitted two of her picture book stories to a local South African publisher and was delighted when they were accepted and published.
In 2007, Shuter & Shooter accepted her first chapter book and she is currently in contract negotiation with them for the South African rights to Midnight Rescue, Rustlers! and The Raging River (a 3 book adventure series for children aged 10-13).
She feels that doing something she loves for a living is a joy too few people get to experience, and relishes every day she spends writing or illustrating.
